Prison is not all about beatings, rapes, homemade knives, and tattoos. There are some pretty funny characters locked up behind those walls. And the only way to get to know them, is to become one of them.

I know, there has to be a better way.

Tales of high adventure and broken dreams. Some lies included.

Welcome to
Prison--Enjoy Your Stay
is number two of a three book adventure story.  Book number four is currently in the
typewriter (do they still make those?). The first was Shoulda Robbed a Bank.  Tales of a fourteen year party that
landed the author in Federal Prison for five years.  He'll be the first to
admit that he had a great time along the way.  From the first toke to a
dealer of ounces.  Then, the first pound, traveling from Florida to
Massachusetts with a tourist from Boston.  Up the ladder to
multi-ton transactions--and bringing the 'evil weed' from the Bahama Islands,
Mexico, and Colombia, South America.  One big bash that led to prison.
This is not a 'whiny, poor me' story.  This is a tale of fun-filled
adventures--complete with lost boats, lost aircraft, and the successful
multi-ton offloads.  These guys used everything available for
transport.  From helicopters to burros.  The true story of everything
that can go wrong and the elation when everything goes right.  A good time
was had by all.  Except prison.  That was not much fun.

The cover art for 'Welcome to Prison...' isn't exactly eye-catching, so, when I bought this book, it went straight to my "to be read but I'll probably never read it" pile. In a moment of boredom, I picked the book up. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Hugh Yonn was sent to a federal prison after being convicted of a conspiracy to move and distribute over 12,000 pounds of marijuana. He gives us a humorous, witty, and even occasioanlly gut-wrenching look at life within federal prison walls. He has a way of making you feel like you could relate to him (and I am the wife of a prison guard, of all things!).

Very well written and engaging. My only complaint -and this is a big one- is that 'Welcome to Prison...' is way too short. Hugh only shares the first year of the four years he spent behind bars. What happened during the rest of his stay? What happened when he was released? Where was his family during these years?

Hugh..I hope you will consider writing and sharing the rest of your story. This reader would definitely purchase it!

Welcome to PrisonEnjoy Your Stay edition by Hugh Yonn Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Laughed all the way through, starting with the intake procedure. With a former lawyer I had hired now doing time I hope his checking in was similar. The tales of other prisoners were easy to picture and laugh at as well. Wish it had more stories from the remaining sentence. Another fun book that will make laugh is "Panning for Pleasure".
I read this book in about an hour, but it is well worth the 1 dollar it costs. It is essentially a continuation of the same story from his previous book (Should have robbed a bank), although with Hugh's fantastic ways of telling a story you can easily read this book without reading the former. Many of the reviewers seem to fixate on the idea that Hugh is pushing for legalization of Marijuana, he does nothing of the sort. This book is more about the absurdity of the situation that he finds himself in BECAUSE of marijuana. This book had me laughing my ass off again. Hugh is a great story teller and reading this book is like listening to a very interesting friend tell you his life story.
I will start right off by saying I know this author very well. I left a previous review and it was not accepted. It was for this authors first book, Shouda Robbed A Bank. I have really enjoyed his work. All three books are very informative this is not a subject I usually read. The stories are interesting, funny. touching and a few heartbreaking. The language is very acceptable. So if you would like to know how prison was for a sentence of five years for a offence that is now become acceptable in many states across the country, you will enjoy them very much.
I don't know for sure, but I believe this is an abbreviated version of or introduction to some of Yonn's other writings. Or maybe it's a short-story form of memoir about life in prison. Either way, it has a unique charm to it, mostly because of the author's hilarious take on the federal government and his own situation (getting caught smuggling a couple tons of marijuana into the U.S.).

The book is missing a cohesive thread of narrative. It's kind of a shotgun approach to the "lighter side" of being a federal prisoner. Despite this, it's an enjoyable short read that definitely makes you want to check out Yonn's longer works, at least one of which also deals with life on the inside. I recommend it for anyone looking for a quick read and a a good laugh with no sermons or excuses attached.
BEFORE you read this book, you should be sure to read the FIRST book, Shoulda Robbed a Bank.

The reason I say this is because I read this one first and while it was not a bad tale, it was a little disappointing because it was short.... and it felt like it takes place in the middle of the story... which makes sense, now.. as it is the middle book. Doh!

Shame on me for not noticing that
a) it clearly states this is the Book 2
b) it also states it is only 45 pages (so be aware, this IS a short story)

Having said that, I had to read this a second time to appreciate the book, once I got over my initial disappointment caused by MY own lack of observational skills. I can hardly fault the author for my own shortcomings.

As I read it the second time, I felt myself chuckling along as I went. Mr. Yonn gives us a humorous insight into the absurdity of the mandatory sentencing laws in this country. His sense of humor is contagious and I like the fact that he is able to make the best of a bad situation, without having to whine about it, like some of the other books I've read by folks who have found themselves in similar situations.

Pros It's a quick, easy, read ... and entertaining
Cons It's short. It's really short.

Looking forward to the next one.
As an avid reader who read countless of prison books, I was really impressed with this book.
Hugh Yonn, a marijuana distributer who was sentenced to 15(!) years to a maximum security prison, gives a riveting and detailed account of prison life. The reader is exposed to the humiliation, difficulty and stress of incarceration. The book appeals to one’s human side without over usage of violent imagery, bitterness or machoism. It is a well written, fast and griping book.
While the main purpose of the book is to describe prison life, one additional point the book makes is especially noteworthy He effectively argues against the war on drugs, the draconian drug laws, and the lengthy incarceration imposed. Not only is the war not winnable, it also violates freedom and common sense. Even non-libertarians would give a serious second thought to the effectiveness of the war on drugs once reading this book. For example, one point the author makes is that bank robbers get a lesser sentence than a marijuana dealers and are eligible for parole even sooner! Amazing!
