The first half of the work is going over the logic by which he proposes the Supreme Being would work (obviously the Christian God, but not necessarily so, at this point it is a little general). The second half brings in scripture, and Edwards goes through how scripture fits into his outline painted in the first section to display God's plan for the world.
A great book and a necessary read for Christians.
Jonathan Edward's Concerning the End for which God created the World is, of course, a classic that needs little introduction. It is an excellent work that every Christian should be familiar with. It is deep in theological context, and discusses how God does all things for his own glory. Jonathan Edward's writing is a little long winded for those who are not used to him, but he is extremely detailed.
The reason why I took one start off
I purchased the audio version of this book and found the english a little difficult to listen to on audio CD format as the English used by Edwards is quite archaic. It is much easier to read older English than it is to listen to it--especially if you are listening to it being read for long periods of time.
It would be much better if this was an audio recording of a more updated version with modern English with a more dramatized reading. I found the reading to be a little monotonous.
after reading a copy of this book in print, I decided I needed to listen and repeat many passages due to the depth of Edward's writing. It has been very helpful and great exercise of the mind, regarding a most important topic.
